New Skin-loving primers from First Aid Beauty

First Aid Beauty, know for their great skincare, is releasing two new primers.

One, the Ultra Repair Hyaluronic Hydrating primer, is supposed to be hydrating and healing with ingredients like hyaluronic acid (obviously) and colloidal oatmeal.

The other primer is supposed to be pore-filling and mattifying, using ingredients like silica and plant based extracts to control oil and keep skin looking matte and smooth.

First Aid Beauty is a brand I definitely want to try. As I am moving into a new phase in life, I am trying to make my beauty collection more minimal and more clean. FAB prises itself on clean beauty products. So I do think that I will be picking up one of these primers.

If I had to choose right now, it would be the hyaluronic acid option, but FAB also already has their Coconut Skin Smoothie Moisturizing Primer that could be a great option for the warmer months.

What do you guys think? Have you tried anything from First Aid Beauty? Do you like primers that double as skincare?

A refreshing new way to hydrate the skin and reapply SPF.

Physicians Formula has released exactly the product I’ve been waiting for: their new refreshing face mist with SPF.

This new RefreshMist has cucumber and bamboo to hydrate and nourish your face, while the SPF of 20 makes it easy to reapply sun protection without ruining your makeup.

I am all the way here for this and am definitely picking this up. All of the sunscreen sprays I’ve tried in the past have been chalky aerosols so I am really hoping that this one is a winner. It’s definitely be something that I kept in my bag year round, but especially in the warmer months when I’m outdoors more.

How do you guys keep your face protected all day? Let’s chat!

Morning Makeup Musings #73

OleHenriksen is joining the makeup arena?!

OleHenriksen is adding another item to its popular Banana Bright line, but this time is not exactly skincare. It’s a primer.

First released yesterday on the Sephora app as an early-access exclusive, this primer is the sister product to the Banana Bright eye cream (which was in my Best of 2018 countdown and a Face Friday because I love it so much). Its ingredients include Vitamin C to reduce signs of aging over time, Vitamin E to nourish the skin, and banana powder-inspired pigments to instantly brighten the appearance of your skin.

The primer is said to be for all skin types and can be worn under makeup, alone, and used as a highlighter. It’s also supposed to smooth out the skin. The fact that you can use it as a highlighter makes it clear that it’ll give a dewy finish.

I’m not sure if I will buy this primer, but I certainly want to give it a try. I will wait to see if it comes to stores next month so I can sample it. If not, I may bite the bullet since I love the Banana Bright Crème so much. I’ve been super into dewy skin lately, and this really seems to fit my current preferences. Plus it seems like a skincare/makeup hybrid which I love even more.

What are your thoughts? Have you tried the eye Crème? Would you trust a skincare-only brand with a makeup product? Let’s chat!

2019 Low Buy

I am starting 2019 committed to being a smarter consumer. Here are my terms.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season.

For me, New Year’s is a time to reflect on the lessons and triumphs of the past year, while planning for the next goals of the new one. One major thing I learned from 2018 was that I spent wayyyyyyyyyy too much money on makeup. Of all of the products that I bought last year, I decluttered probably a third of it. The rest I only use here and there.

This year will be different. I am committed to no longer buying makeup that just looks cool or seems trendy (or is on sale). I only want to purchase items that I really want to use and enjoy. So, I am going on a low-buy. Here are the terms:

I have a budget of $150 every month to spend on both makeup AND skincare– including anything I need to restock. As we all know, skincare can be extremely expensive. So, instead of just running out to buy a new product, I will have to make more of an effort use the tons of skincare that I already own. In terms of makeup, I will try to compare the releases to what’s already in my collection. I may try doing a shop my stash for comparisons. This will help me think critically about all of the new releases to see which ones really fit into my collection.

One thing I am definitely doing to help stick to this goal is to make the majority of my purchases online. Doing this will help because I won’t get sucked into just grabbing things that catch my attention in the stores. It is easier to close a browser than it is to walk away from a display or out of the store all together. Plus, I can use E-bates to get money back on my purchases!

Looking at new releases everyday, it can be easy to fall into the trap of FOMO, but I think this will be a good exercise in being an objective consumer. I’m looking forward to the challenge.

Are you guys doing any Low- or No-Buys in 2019? What are your terms?

Let’s chat!

Best of Beauty 2018: Love, Beauty & Planet Deodorant

We’ve all heard the warnings about aluminum in our anti-perspirants. It’s not too great. So, heeding the advise of my doctor, I decided to switch from using anti-perspirant to deodorant. Instead of stopping the natural process of sweating, I was just aiming to stay fresh.

About two years ago, when I made the switch, the deodorant aisles of stores didn’t actually have many (read- actually zero) deodorants. All of the major brands pretty much only made antiperspirants. So, I found myself at Whole Foods in the natural deodorant section. Over the years, I’ve tried a several natural deodorants. The two that I have found to work the best are Schmidt’s Naturals and Love, Beauty & Planet.

I wore Schmidt’s Bergamot & Lime deodorant everyday for over a year until suddenly I started developing rashes under my arms. I honestly thought it was irritation from waxing until one day my husband ran out of his antiperspirant and used mine. He thought it worked well, so he went out and purchased one for himself (different scent). Within a few days, his underarms were also covered in painful rashes. Fortunately, after a few days sans deodorant (thankfully cold weather 🙏🏽) both of our pits were back to normal.

After that fiasco, he went back to his tried and true antiperspirants (he was low-key traumatized and won’t even look at natural deodorant anymore) and I began my hunt again for another natural deodorant that would work. That’s when I found the Love, Beauty & Planet Deodorant in the scent Coconut Water & Mimosa Flower (in Target btw).

This deodorant smells super refreshing (the name really is appropriate) and keeps me fresh all day without any touchups. Natural deodorant wearers know that it is rare for a product to actually last an entire day without having to run to the bathroom to do a quick refresh. Thankfully, this one actually makes it through, and for a natural deodorant, that’s really the top review you can give.

Would you guys make the switch over to natural deodorants?

Best of Beauty 2018: Marc Jacobs See-Quins Glam Glitter Eyeshadow

2018 was the year of great beauty discoveries for me. So instead of just doing the top 18 of 2018, I’m using the entire month of December to give you the deets on all of my favorite cruelty-free beauty products that I picked up this year. From makeup to personal care, I’ve got you! One product for each day ✨

Welcome (or welcome back) to my Best of Beauty MONTH-LONG countdown! Every day of this month, I will be doing reviews on 31 of my favorite beauty products that I tried in 2018.

As I’ve mentioned in previous blog posts, I love products that are made for quick, on the go application, but that look like you took a lot of time doing them. The Marc Jacobs See-Quins Glam Glitter Eyeshadow is that product.

I reviewed it recently in a holiday haul update. So I’ll keep it short. Aside from the fallout during application (just do you eye makeup first), these shadows cannot be more easy to use. Using your finger, just dip into the pot and pat onto the lid. I’ve found that they work best with no primer at all.

Because these have chunky glitter blended throughout the formula, one swipe across the lid will give you a multidimensional look that doesn’t require any other products. I’ve used these several times for events that I needed to get to quickly. I’ve even worn the more neutral Topaz Flash to work.

What products have you guys been loving for super fast eye looks? Let’s chat!
