Top 10 Lipsticks Perfect for Valentine’s Day

Top ten lipsticks
(WOC friendly) for Valentine’s Day 💋

I can’t believe Valentine’s Day is this week!

If you are in need of some lip options for that V-day date, I have some great options for you, both drugstore and higher end (all cruelty-free, of course).

fullsizeoutput_2e95.jpeg

Let’s start with the traditional bullet lipsticks (because a little lipstick on the wine glass isn’t always a bad thing 💋). Also, bullet lippies are comfortable and easier to reapply (no one wants dry lips on a date 🙅🏽‍♀️).

Top to Bottom:

💋ColourPop | Lippie Stix in Fab Five

💋Smashbox | Be Legendary Lipstick in Legendary

💋e.l.f. | Matte Lip Color in Praline

💋Smashbox | Be Legendary Lipstick in Pretty Social

💋Smashbox | Be Legendary Lipstick in Latte (Matte)

For a pout that will definitely last, here are some matte liquid lipstick options. I chose these for both color and formula- these are some of the best in terms of comfort and longevity.

💋Laritzy Cosmetics | Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Nudes (my favorite true nude liquid lip)

💋Ofra | Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Verona

💋Physicians Formula | The Healthy Lip Velvet Finish in Nut-ritious

💋Dose of Colors | Matte Liquid Lipstick in Mood

💋Black Radiance | Perfect Tone Matte Lip Créme in Bronze Sugar (5411)

Whether you are in a relationship or single, I hope Valentines Day finds your heart full of love…both for yourself and the world at large.

And on that note, thank you to everyone for your well wishes (and patience) the last few days. It was really touching. 💜💜💜

Cruelty-Free Brands| High-End

Last updated February 20, 2019.

Happy New Year!🎉🎉

I wanted to start of 2019 with a post that is meaningful to me.

As you may know, in the spring of 2018, I made the personal decision to go cruelty-free with my beauty products. I could no longer, with a clear conscious, support the unnecessary and inhumane testing of beauty products, a complete luxury item, on animals. I won’t go into the gruesome details of what that testing involves, but using one word to describe it, it’s torture. At this point, it’s not even about safety. Virtually every ingredient has already been tested, and there are more accurate alternative methods of testing. The continued testing on animals is totally inexcusable to me.

As I mentioned in my Top 3 Tips for Going Cruelty-Free article, I think it is a completely personal choice and have no desire to berate anyone not choosing to go cruelty-free. I also don’t think it’s reasonable to ask everyone to go cold turkey. Every dollar counts, and for every purchase you make that supports a cruelty-free brand, another animal is saved.

What constitutes cruelty-free? For me this means that none of the brand’s products nor their ingredients have been tested on animals. It also means that the brand is not sold in brick-and-mortar stores in mainland China. Why can’t they be sold in China? China requires beauty products to be tested on animals. (There are some exceptions to this.) I am also excluding brands that sell mink lashes. The process of getting mink fur to make false lashes is also quite inhumane. So, I cannot support those brands either.

The list below of high-end cruelty-free brands was compiled based on my own research. Some of these brands are certified cruelty-free (Leaping Bunny, PETA, etc.), while others attest to being cruelty-free. Unfortunately, there are some brands that claim to be cruelty-free while still selling in mainland China. I’ve had brand reps tell me they were to my face, knowing they sold in China. So, this list is accurate to the best of my knowledge. If you find any brand below that is not cruelty-free, please let me know.  This list is also not 100% comprehensive. If you know of any brand that IS cruelty-free based on the qualifications above, please let me know and I would be thrilled to add them.

To making searching the list easier, I have separated the brands by makeup vs skincare/haircare/fragrance.

Best of Beauty 2018: Briogeo Rosarco Milk

We’ve made it to the end of my 31-day Best of Beauty 2018 countdown. I’ve saved my favorite product for last. It’s an actual miracle worker.

Of all of the beauty products I loved in 2018, there is one that actually performs miracles: the Briogeo Rosarco Milk Reparative Leave-in Conditioning Spray.

My hair is both a gift and a curse. It is ultra thick (so thick that my scalp won’t dry for days if I don’t part my hair when air drying), highly porous, dry, and a random mix of curls and tight coils (with a few random straight strands strewn throughout). Because it is so porous, it gets dry insanely easily.

There really aren’t too many products that can hydrate my hair, and keep it feeling soft and moist (not greasy or oily) for more than a few hours after it is washed. The Briogeo Rosarco Milk spray is on the short list… aka is the entire list. Whether damp or dry, this leave-in conditioner imparts a moisture that penetrates my strands and keeps them feeling soft and hydrated way longer than any other product I’ve ever tried. Like, insanely soft.

My hair never feels soft, even fresh out of the shower. It’s like water just goes right through the hair shaft without touching it. Once I spray the Rosarco Milk, it immediately gets soaked up and seals itself in. It leaves my hair feeling good, looking shiny and smelling heavenly.

My only qualm about this product is how fast I go through it, but honestly, I don’t think it can be helped because of the amount of hair I have. I’ve already repurchased it twice this year, and am down to the last few drops. As soon as I’m out, I will be reordering it. I don’t think I will ever bother trying to find something else to replace it in my haircare routine because it’s really just that good.

What are your favorite hair products? Any miracle workers?

Well guys, we made it to the end of my 31-day Best of Beauty products! I sincerely thank you for sticking with me to the end. Of all the products I mentioned, were there any that you’ve put on your list to try in 2019? I’d love to know!

Lets chat!

Best of Beauty 2018: Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash

I’m the kind of person that changes their body wash monthly. I like switching up the scents, or changing the formula types (foaming, gel, even bars of soap). Additionally, my husband and I would not use the same one. He has ultra dry skin (and eczema). I have oily acne-prone skin (yes, on my body 😒). So, needless to say, we never looked for the same thing in our body wash product. Not any more.

As I have mentioned a million times since the news of their cruelty-free certification was released, I have been amped to try as many Dove products as I could. So, you can imagine my hypeness when I saw that the Dove Deep Moisture Nourishing Body Wash was sold at Costco (one of my favorite places ever). Since the body wash claimed to be deeply moisturizing, I thought my husband could use it also; so we grabbed it.

fullsizeoutput_2af0.jpeg

Guys…I am not in the least bit sorry that our trial purchase of this product was a three-pack of the jumbo size bottles (because…Costco). This body wash is fantastic. The scent is pleasant and fresh, not too floral or fruity, perfect for a unisex wash. The formula is a rich, thick cream that lathers like an absolute dream. If you like being covered in a million little bubbles, this is the body wash for you.

After the shower, my skin is left feeling soft and moisturized, but still clean. It feels like I put on a light lotion straight out of the bath without having to do so. I’ve even noticed that my husband’s skin, which is usually covered in dry patches by this time of year, is much more normal than I’ve seen the past several winters.

Guys, I’ve been converted. I am no longer a serial soap switcher. I think Dove will have its place in our shower for a long time to come.

What’s your favorite bath product?

Best of Beauty 2018: CoverFx Perfect Pressed Powder

As the final makeup product in my Best of Beauty 2018 product, this one really stands out to me. It was my most used product of all of them, this entire year. It’s one I think every makeup wearer should keep in their purse.

One essential product that I think every Makeup wearer needs is a good pressed powder to blot oil or touch up throughout the day. The CoverFx Perfect Pressed Powder is my all-time favorite for this.

This powder, though pressed, is ultra fine and has a soft, silky texture that perfectly smooths and mattifies the skin. Even more than the Hourglass Veil, I can always count on it to never be cakey or chalky. Using the included velour puff (or even a small face brush) the powder just goes on evenly and melts into the skin, which is perfect for mid-afternoon touchups on the go.

As the final makeup product in my Best of Beauty 2018 product, this one really stands out to me. It was my most used product of all of them, this entire year.

What was you most used makeup product of 2018?

Best of Beauty 2018: Urban Decay Hi-Fi Shine Lipgloss in Beso

Less than seven days left of my 31-day countdown of my favorite cruelty-free beauty products in 2018. Today’s spot goes to a lipgloss that acts more like a lipstick.

2018 was the year of the glow for me. Contrary to the “everything matte” movement of 2017, I wanted my entire face to look healthy and dewy, including my lips. So, I found myself leaning heavily towards lipgloss year-round as my go-to lip product of choice.

Since I already mentioned one lipgloss in the Best of Beauty list, you may be asking: “Why do you have two HG lipglosses? They are lipgloss. How?” If you’ve ever tried to go into an Ulta or Sephora to ask for lipgloss, you know that you can get anything from crystal clear, to metallic gold, to iridescent blue, to solidly opaque red with plumping technology… and everything in between.

The Buxom gloss that I mentioned early on this month is a sheer rose color that slightly plumps the lips. On the other hand, the Urban Decay Hi-Fi Shine in the shade Beso is a way more opaque gloss whose pigment is comparable to some of my traditional bullet lipsticks, but with tons of shine.

For most of my makeup looks and daily activities, the mauve shade of this gloss is perfect for most occasions. It’s not too bright, but not quite a nude either. I keep it in my purse as my go to if I forgot my lipstick, or if I just don’t feel like trying to decide on a color. Additionally, the wear time on this gloss is pretty good. I can definitely have it on for a few hours before having to reapply it.

What were your favorite lip glosses in 2018? Do you prefer sheer or more opaque colors?

Best of Beauty 2018: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Vanilla Quartz

2018 was the year of great beauty discoveries for me. So instead of just doing the top 18 of 2018, I’m using the entire month of December to give you the deets on all of my favorite cruelty-free beauty products that I picked up this year. From makeup to personal care, I’ve got you! One product for each day. Today’s product gives the ultimate dewy highlight and is perfect for mid-toned complexions… not too gold and not too icy✨

2018 was the year I really got into highlighters. Of all of the single highlighters that I’ve tried, the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Vanilla Quartz has been the most natural, wet-looking highlighter (on my complexion) that I have found.

I got this highlighter as a part of the Mini Macaroons set that Becca offered this holiday season. While I enjoy the other shades, this is the one I consistently reach for. It is the perfect champagne color that looks completely natural on my skin (Opal is a bit too gold, and the other colors are rose and purple shades).

Besides the color, the texture of this highlighter is amazing. It blends gorgeously into the skin without emphasizing texture, and gives it a dewy, wet shines that makes my face look radiant and not at all metallic.

I will definitely be purchasing the full-size of this highlighter once I inevitably finish up this mini size.

What is your go-to highlighter?
