Morning Makeup Musings #25

Quick chat about a new makeup release over my morning coffee.

Good morning!

A few months ago, Blush Tribe release a photo of a new eyeshadow palette that they were doing in collaboration with YouTuber- Safai. Unfortunately, the colors didn’t get the best reception. So, the owner asked what people wanted to see and promised to come back with something different. Well…. it’s finally been revealed- the Munaza palette.

I think this palette is beautiful. I am not super familiar with Safai, but from what I’ve seen of her IG, she loves bright colors. Blush Tribe loves developing brightly colored palettes. So, I think it’s a match made in heaven.

I have never tried Blush Tribe. They are a UK indie brand. However, I am seriously committing to ordering something from them in 2019. The owner does a lot of pre-orders for her new releases. So, I will be watching closely throughout the year to grab something.

Do you guys like brightly colored palettes like this? Would you order one from an indie brand with great reviews?

Flashback Friday: Where are they now? Products from my 2017 Winter VIB Sale Haul

I bought 21 items in my largest-ever haul- the 2017 Sephora VIB Sale Haul. Where are they now? Spoiler: There was one product I never even used….🙄

Hi guys!

Every time Sephora or Ulta has a major sale, lots of us jump at the chance of saving money on beauty items. Who wouldn’t, right? But looking back, and seeing how much I’ve gotten rid of, don’t use, etc., I have to wonder, did I do myself any favors spending money just for the sake of saving some? So, let’s see together by taking a look back at my Sephora VIB Sale Haul from last year and see where those products are now.

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Gloss Bomb.

Even when I bought this, I hated how it smelled…. I still hate how it smells. It is a very artificial coconut scent that reminds me of a hair product I used growing up. (Yikes!😬) So combining the smell and the ultra thick texture, I have the very unpopular opinion of disliking this product. It is still in my collection because I use it as a topper over matte lipsticks, but I never wear it alone.

Tarte tarteist Lip Bling top coat

I do still have this lip gloss also. I think it adds a really pretty gold sparkle to whatever you wear under it. I’m not mad about having this one. I do think it is a nice topper. Plus the packaging is super pretty.

Urban Decay Vice Matte Meets Metal Lipstick palette

So, almost immediately after purchasing this lip palette, I stopped using it. Honestly, I’d rather carry five individual lipsticks in my bag than use a palette. I just don’t like them. The brush is inconvenient; you either have to clean it every time or the colors get mixed and a bit gross. This is in my collection for some reason, but I’m going to either give it away to family or throw it away. Terrible buy. 😒

Sephora Crème lip stain in Pretty Auburn (26)

I do still have this product, but I don’t think I’ve ever worn it. 🙄 I don’t even have an opinion on it. I just know its not cruelty-free so I definitely couldn’t recommend it even if I had liked it. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Marc Jacobs Eye-conic palettes in Frivoluxe (730) & Smartorial (760)

I do still own both of these palettes. As I mentioned in Saturday’s Morning Makeup Musing, I do enjoy the Marc Jacobs Eye-conic formula and especially like the 7-pan palettes.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil in Zero

As I mentioned in the Holiday Haul Review of the mini set of the Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliners, I think UD makes the best gel liners. This is no exception. I still have it and the only reason it hasn’t been used up is because I need to buy an eyeliner sharpener. Great product.

Makeup Forever Excessive Lash Mascara

This is no longer in my collection because I used it up. I can’t repurchase it because MUFA is not cruelty-free. I did enjoy it, but there are some other good mascara options, such as the Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect which gives the same effect for a fourth of the price (and is also cruelty-free).

Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation in Rich Caramel

This is another product that is still in my collection. Unfortunately, I love this product so I have been saving it for special occasions when I need something that I know won’t fail me. However, it’s not cruelty-free. 😔

Sephora Serum Gel concealer in Toffe, Crème Caramel & Pecan Pie

These were my favorite concealers. I used them up, but ended up buying other concealers to try out. These are also not cruelty-free and cannot be repurchased. I’m working on finding a good drugstore concealer that’s also cruelty-free.

Urban Decay Velvetizer

I do still have this product. I used it during the summer to help keep me matte. I do think that it is helpful and does what it claimed. I’ve also found that it helps smooth out the under eye area nicely as a finishing powder.

Tarte Blush Bazaar- Amazonian clay blush palette

Of everything I bought last year, I am happiest about this blush palette. I think it was a great buy, and I use it all of the time. At one point, I actually had to cycle it out of my everyday collection just so I could use some of my other blushes. Since Tarte is a cruelty-free brand, I can happily use this product and recommend it. It was limited edition, so I can’t recommend this one specifically, but I do recommend the Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes both individually and in the blush books that Tarte releases from time to time.

Peter Thomas Roth Mask-a-holic Kit

I do have and use these masks. Peter Thomas Roth is not cruelty-free, but the quality of these masks is really high and they were worth the price. I have to find cruelty-free alternatives, but in the meantime, I really enjoy this set of masks.

Too Faced Hangover 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer & Setting Spray

I actually finished up and repurchased this product. Until recently, the Too Faced Hangover Rx was the only high-end makeup spray I would use. I’m currently using (and loving) another brand that I received as a giveaway from a YouTuber, but I was very happy with this spray.

Beautyblender the original BeautyBlender

I was thrilled with the BeautyBlender for a long time. I actually used it until it basically fell apart…That’s also when I vowed to never buy another one. I washed my BeautyBlender regularly until it was clean…or so I thought. One day the I was washing it, it tore. Despite the outside of the sponge being clean, the inside was filled with foundation from who knows when. 🤢 Never again.

BeautyBleander blendercleanser solid

The cleanser bar worked well enough, but I prefer dish soap to throughly clean my brushes and sponges. I did use this up completely though.

Sephora mini color switch

Great buy, and I did use this (probably longer than I should have). Now I just use the foam from my monthly BoxyCharms, but I think the Color Switch is a great product and super convenient if you don’t want to have to use a bunch of eyeshadow brushes.

Sephora Favorites Cologne Sampler

I got this as a gift for my husband. Ask me if the man ever redeemed his cologne. 😑 I do still think it was a good buy because he does use it when he wants to switch up his cologne, but smh…. I do need to mention that this set includes non-cruelty-free colognes. So, I can’t recommend it, but I love the concept.

💜

We made it to the end!! Still here? Yay! I have to say, out of about 20 products, I did get good use out of most of them. There were definitely some duds, but for the most part, I think I actually picked products that I ended up using and loving.

Did you guys purchase any beauty products around this time last year? Do you still have them? Did you end up loving them? Hating them? I’d love to know.

Quick chat about a new makeup release over my morning coffee.

Good morning!

@beautynewsofficial just announced the release of a new Los Angeles-themed collection from Smashbox, and it is beautiful.

The collection contains a 16-pan eyeshadow palette (which also comes with the Always On eyeliner) and 15 glosses.

Although I’ve been loving glosses this year, I am definitely most interested in the palette. I love that it’s a mix of warm, cool and neutral tones, and also has a few pops of color. My only hesitation with this palette is that I have heard mixed reviews about the Cover Shot formula. So, I’m going to keep an eye out for some reviews before I put this on my must-have list.

What do you guys think about the new collection? Will it make it into your holiday wishlist?

ColourPop Haul & Full Face of 1st Impressions

Hi guys!

Two hauls in one week? Yep. Which is why I won’t be buying any new makeup until 2019. 😂 (but seriously).

I was drawn in by the ColourPop holiday collection, and figured I may as well try a few more items from the brand that I’ve been hearing a lot about recently.

Here’s what I got along with my first impressions of each:

No Filter concealer in Dark 42

This concealer is a bit more matte than I was expecting. I prefer a hydrating concealer, but the next time I wear this I think I will try skipping the powder setting. I see zero creasing a few hours in, so that’s a good sign. I’m looking forward to trying this more.

No Filter Foundation Stix in Dark 175W

This product went on really easily and blended out (with a brush) super fast and with no streaking or splotchiness. It really just glided over my skin like a dream and left me looking airbrushed, but still natural. It also has really good coverage. I have to see how this holds up throughout the day, but so far…this is amazing.

Best in Brow Kit in Dark Brown (includes Precision Brow Pencil, Brow Boss Pencil, Precision Brow Colour & Brow Boss Gel, all in the Shade Dark Brown)

I used the Precision Brow Pencil, Brow Boss Pencil and Brow Boss Gel (yes, all three). I have to say, I don’t think I’ve ever done my brows so fast. I was really impressed. I also think the color of the products is perfect for my brows.

Crème Gel liner in DTLA

This eyeliner is so creamy omg, even moreso than my Urban Decay 24/7 liners. I have to see how well this wears, but so far so good on my top lash line. The one con is that the point wore away immediately. I couldn’t get a sharp line when trying to line my second eye because the point had completely dulled just that fast.

Jelly Much Shadow in Sweet Dreams

I really like this shadow. It is a really thick jelly, but it goes on super smoothly. It reminds me of the Marc Jacobs glitter, but less chunky and suspended in more of a gel. I didn’t notice any fallout at all from this during application nor during the wear. I applied it to my lids with a glitter glue and my fingers. On my lower lash line, I had no primer (only my concealer which had bee nest with powder) and used a small pencil brush.

Gliterally Obsessed in Wish Me Luck, Starfire & Dream About Me

Annoyingly, when I placed this order (which was before I posted about it in a Morning Makeup Musing), I had only seen this product on the product page. On that page, it is just listed as Gliterally Obsessed. No where on the page does it say that this is for Hair and Face/Body. Only on the Holiday Collection Set page is it listed as a body glitter. So, I have no use for these so. 🤬

Crème Lux Lipstick in Cinnamon

Although this is a cream formula, it is matte. It actually feels way more matte than I was expecting, and dries down to almost the equivalent of a liquid lipstick (it also doesn’t stick well to the inner rim of the lips). I think the color is beautiful, and since it is a creme it is pretty easy to apply. I just wish it adheres to my lips better. The one benefit of the dry down is that it is much more (but not 100%) transfer resistant than a normal cream lipstick and seems to last a long time. Since it’s a crème, it is also easy to reapply.

Pencil Sharpener

I just really needed a pencil sharpener for my lip and eye pencils. I like that this one has a cover to catch the filings.

💜 After testing everything out more thoroughly, I will come back with full reviews on each product. In the meantime, what are some of your favorite ColourPop products?

Morning Makeup Musings #23

Quick chat about a new makeup release over my morning coffee.

Good morning!

Indie brand Sydney Grace just released their very first eyeshadow palette- Autumn Reign.

Previously they were releasing only single shadows, which are highly raved about. So, Since they are keeping the same formula, I am very interested in trying out this palette. The colors are really pretty, and I could see this being something I would reach for year round.

Unfortunately, because this is an indie brand, the prices are a bit higher. Autumn Reign will cost you $52. 😬 I am really considering in 2019, only spending over $50 on indie brands. I’ve purchased several $100+ palettes from luxury brands and have found myself disappointed more than once. So, I think indie brands with a reputation for quality (and cruelty-free, of course) deserve the same kind of consideration from me.

That being said, I am going to put this palette on my list of products to pick up for next year. If I end up passing on this one, I may just grab some of their singles.

What do you guys think? Would you support an indie brand despite the higher prices?

Let’s chat!
