Morning Makeup Musings #35

Quick chat about a new makeup release over my morning coffee. Today I’m talking briefly about a new set from Tarte that’s perfect for a last minute gift idea.

Good morning!

Just in time for a great last-minute gift idea, Tarte has released a new beauty set at Sephora– the Ride or Die Full Face Set.

Here’s what it includes:

– Tartelette Tease Eyeshadow Palette
– 0.1 oz/ 2.8 g Rainforest of the Sea™ Quench Lip Rescue in Cherry
– 0.0169 oz/ 0.5 mL Rainforest of the Sea™ So Fine Micro Liner
– 0.24 oz/ 7 mL Lights, Camera, Lashes™ 4-In-1 Mascara
– 1.7 oz/ 50 mL Rainforest of the Sea™ Deep Dive Makeup Removing Gel Cleanser
– Makeup bag
– Scrubber

For $49, I think this is the perfect set to get the makeup lover on your list, or just yourself. Thankfully I’m done my Christmas shopping so I don’t need to grab this, but I do think it’s a good value.

Would you guys be happy to get this as a Christmas gift? Do you know anyone who’d love it? Let’s chat!

Morning Makeup Musings #33

Quick chat about a new makeup release over my morning coffee.

Good morning!

So, Makeup Slayve, an indie brand, is releasing a new holiday set, Winter Wonderland, on Friday, and I may have to pick it up. 😬

For only $15, you get a highlighter, and four eyeshadows. I think this combination of colors is absolutely perfect for the holidays, and just looking at the swatches gave me a million ideas for looks I could do with it.

I feel like I have to get this collection now, because it may not be around after the holidays. With small indie brands, usually products are made in small batches, and once they are gone, they may be gone forever. So, since I am so drawn to this one, I think I will go ahead and pick it up on Friday instead of waiting until next year to give this brand a try.

Have you guys ever been so drawn to a product that you could not risk missing out on it? Let’s chat!

Morning Makeup Musings #26

Quick chat about a new makeup release over my morning coffee.

Good morning!

So, I saw that Give Me Glow Cosmetics is coming out with a new holiday collection, including an eyeshadow palette.

We haven’t seen pictures of everything yet, but there will be an eyeshadow palette (pictured above), 3 loose highlighters, 3 pressed highlighters and 4 matte liquid lipsticks.

I think the eyeshadow palette is gorgeous. I feel like it may get mixed reception because of the unique (and very Christmas) color selections. However, I really like it.

My initial reaction when I saw this was -wow I’d buy that if I weren’t on a no buy until 2019, but thinking critically, I don’t think I would. I have every color in this palette except for the greens (even though I do have some green shadows they aren’t these shades). So I really can’t justify spending $36 plus shipping for two pressed eyeshadows.

Again, I do think it’s an absolutely stunning palette, but I’m committing to being more practical with my purchases moving forward.

What about you guys? Do you like the Christmas-themed eyeshadow palette? Ha e you tried anything from Give Me Glow Cosmetics?

Let’s chat!

Flashback Friday: Where are they now? Products from my 2017 Winter VIB Sale Haul

I bought 21 items in my largest-ever haul- the 2017 Sephora VIB Sale Haul. Where are they now? Spoiler: There was one product I never even used….🙄

Hi guys!

Every time Sephora or Ulta has a major sale, lots of us jump at the chance of saving money on beauty items. Who wouldn’t, right? But looking back, and seeing how much I’ve gotten rid of, don’t use, etc., I have to wonder, did I do myself any favors spending money just for the sake of saving some? So, let’s see together by taking a look back at my Sephora VIB Sale Haul from last year and see where those products are now.

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Gloss Bomb.

Even when I bought this, I hated how it smelled…. I still hate how it smells. It is a very artificial coconut scent that reminds me of a hair product I used growing up. (Yikes!😬) So combining the smell and the ultra thick texture, I have the very unpopular opinion of disliking this product. It is still in my collection because I use it as a topper over matte lipsticks, but I never wear it alone.

Tarte tarteist Lip Bling top coat

I do still have this lip gloss also. I think it adds a really pretty gold sparkle to whatever you wear under it. I’m not mad about having this one. I do think it is a nice topper. Plus the packaging is super pretty.

Urban Decay Vice Matte Meets Metal Lipstick palette

So, almost immediately after purchasing this lip palette, I stopped using it. Honestly, I’d rather carry five individual lipsticks in my bag than use a palette. I just don’t like them. The brush is inconvenient; you either have to clean it every time or the colors get mixed and a bit gross. This is in my collection for some reason, but I’m going to either give it away to family or throw it away. Terrible buy. 😒

Sephora Crème lip stain in Pretty Auburn (26)

I do still have this product, but I don’t think I’ve ever worn it. 🙄 I don’t even have an opinion on it. I just know its not cruelty-free so I definitely couldn’t recommend it even if I had liked it. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Marc Jacobs Eye-conic palettes in Frivoluxe (730) & Smartorial (760)

I do still own both of these palettes. As I mentioned in Saturday’s Morning Makeup Musing, I do enjoy the Marc Jacobs Eye-conic formula and especially like the 7-pan palettes.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil in Zero

As I mentioned in the Holiday Haul Review of the mini set of the Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliners, I think UD makes the best gel liners. This is no exception. I still have it and the only reason it hasn’t been used up is because I need to buy an eyeliner sharpener. Great product.

Makeup Forever Excessive Lash Mascara

This is no longer in my collection because I used it up. I can’t repurchase it because MUFA is not cruelty-free. I did enjoy it, but there are some other good mascara options, such as the Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect which gives the same effect for a fourth of the price (and is also cruelty-free).

Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation in Rich Caramel

This is another product that is still in my collection. Unfortunately, I love this product so I have been saving it for special occasions when I need something that I know won’t fail me. However, it’s not cruelty-free. 😔

Sephora Serum Gel concealer in Toffe, Crème Caramel & Pecan Pie

These were my favorite concealers. I used them up, but ended up buying other concealers to try out. These are also not cruelty-free and cannot be repurchased. I’m working on finding a good drugstore concealer that’s also cruelty-free.

Urban Decay Velvetizer

I do still have this product. I used it during the summer to help keep me matte. I do think that it is helpful and does what it claimed. I’ve also found that it helps smooth out the under eye area nicely as a finishing powder.

Tarte Blush Bazaar- Amazonian clay blush palette

Of everything I bought last year, I am happiest about this blush palette. I think it was a great buy, and I use it all of the time. At one point, I actually had to cycle it out of my everyday collection just so I could use some of my other blushes. Since Tarte is a cruelty-free brand, I can happily use this product and recommend it. It was limited edition, so I can’t recommend this one specifically, but I do recommend the Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes both individually and in the blush books that Tarte releases from time to time.

Peter Thomas Roth Mask-a-holic Kit

I do have and use these masks. Peter Thomas Roth is not cruelty-free, but the quality of these masks is really high and they were worth the price. I have to find cruelty-free alternatives, but in the meantime, I really enjoy this set of masks.

Too Faced Hangover 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer & Setting Spray

I actually finished up and repurchased this product. Until recently, the Too Faced Hangover Rx was the only high-end makeup spray I would use. I’m currently using (and loving) another brand that I received as a giveaway from a YouTuber, but I was very happy with this spray.

Beautyblender the original BeautyBlender

I was thrilled with the BeautyBlender for a long time. I actually used it until it basically fell apart…That’s also when I vowed to never buy another one. I washed my BeautyBlender regularly until it was clean…or so I thought. One day the I was washing it, it tore. Despite the outside of the sponge being clean, the inside was filled with foundation from who knows when. 🤢 Never again.

BeautyBleander blendercleanser solid

The cleanser bar worked well enough, but I prefer dish soap to throughly clean my brushes and sponges. I did use this up completely though.

Sephora mini color switch

Great buy, and I did use this (probably longer than I should have). Now I just use the foam from my monthly BoxyCharms, but I think the Color Switch is a great product and super convenient if you don’t want to have to use a bunch of eyeshadow brushes.

Sephora Favorites Cologne Sampler

I got this as a gift for my husband. Ask me if the man ever redeemed his cologne. 😑 I do still think it was a good buy because he does use it when he wants to switch up his cologne, but smh…. I do need to mention that this set includes non-cruelty-free colognes. So, I can’t recommend it, but I love the concept.

We made it to the end!! Still here? Yay! I have to say, out of about 20 products, I did get good use out of most of them. There were definitely some duds, but for the most part, I think I actually picked products that I ended up using and loving.

Did you guys purchase any beauty products around this time last year? Do you still have them? Did you end up loving them? Hating them? I’d love to know.

Let’s chat!

Holiday Review: Marc Jacobs Beauty See-Quins Glam Glitter Eyeshadow

Hi guys!

I typically don’t wear glitter, but to me, the holidays are the perfect time to turn up the sparkle. The Marc Jacobs See-Quins Glam Glitter Eyeshadows are perfect for getting quick, glitter looks, both day and night.

Each shadow comes in a pretty glass pot, with a gold lid. While packaging isn’t everything, these definitely look pretty sitting on a vanity. Inside the lid is a small black press. Do not throw it away. Every time you use the shadow, the product is pressed back down to keep it mess-free.

While it will probably be more of a hassle once I get down to the bottom, this shadow is super easy to apply using a finger. I just dip my finger in to the soft textured putty-like shadow and enough product comes out to cover an entire lid. With just one crease color, and a single swipe per eye, this shadow makes it super easy to do a five-minute glam look to get you out the door and to all your holiday events in minutes.

The pay off is gorgeous and lasts all day, with or without a primer (or glitter primer). I have oily eyelids so that is major for me. The only downfall for this product is that the fallout is insane. You MUST apply this before doing the rest of your face makeup, or even skincare, because you will have to wipe it all off. I didn’t notice any fall out during the day after I finished my eye makeup.

If you can get past the fall out at application, I think these shadows are amazing… and for $28 each, they should be. There are some really wear-able everyday colors, such as the Topaz Flash and Copperazzi shades that I got. If you don’t mind wearing a bit of glitter to work, I think you could get a lot of use out of these, making them worth the splurge.

L-R: Topaz Flash, Copperazzi

Would you guys go for the glitter this holiday season? Or do you wear glitter shadows year-round? Let’s chat!

Holiday Review: Smashbox Holidaze: Be Legendary Lipstick + Lip Mattifier Set

The Smashbox Holidaze: Be Legendary Lipstick + Lip Mattifier Set is an Ulta Exclusive holiday set of five full-size Be Legendary Lipsticks plus a mini Lip Mattifier gel that…well, mattifies your traditional cream lipsticks. The five colors are a really good range of nudes, a bright fuchsia, a deep plum and a true red.

I really enjoy this set. Of the three Smashbox lipstick formulas I’ve tried, this traditional cream is my favorite. The lipsticks are super creamy and hydrating. They go on the lips smoothly. The mattifier is a soft, clear gel that makes your lips look velvety. I think it’s a nice option for a matte look without the dryness of an actual matte lipstick.

I like that the colors are not totally opaque on the first swipe, especially for the nudes, because I can blend out the edges and wear them without a lip liner. You can build the color up. bit, but it’s not going to reach liquid lip opacity. I like the look and feel of these so much that I keep the shades Honey and Pretty Social in my purse for a quick nude lip I can wear anytime.

The set is a limited edition holiday release for $29. Each individual lipstick retails for $21. So, for less than $10 more than the price of one lipstick, you are getting five plus the mattifier. I think this is a great deal. The lipsticks come in the Holidaze-themed packaging and the lipsticks have a really pretty imprint on them, making this a really good set for gifting. You can split up the set and give individual colors to different people, or just give the whole set to a lipstick lover in your life. (I will note that inside of the box that these come in, they are just randomly wrapped in matching Holidaze tissue paper. So, don’t be surprised when you open it.)

Have you guys found any really good lip sets for the holidays? Do you know anyone who would be happy to receive this set as a gift?

Let’s chat!
