Product review: NYX Powder Puff Lippie

Brand new lip item from NYX reviewed.

Hi guys & Happy New Year!

I hope that these first few days of 2018 have been treating you well. Let’s make 2018 our most beautiful year ever.

As my first post  of the year, I wanted to share with you guys a quick review of a new lip product that just launched and that I fell in love with quickly: NYX Powder Puff Lippie.

img_3923

If you follow our IG and/or Twitter, you would have seen that I posted about this product AS SOON as I tried it. I stumbled across it on my way to check out at Ulta. I thought it looked quite interesting and the swatches on my hand felt insanely soft. The tip of the product is a super soft puff, and the powder lip cream (as NYX defines it) is so soft and pillowy that you can’t tell if you’re actually applying anything just by feel alone.

Image 1-2-18 at 6.43 PM

I got the color Cool Intentions. It is a pretty mauve/rose with grey undertones. I think it works great as a cool-toned nude for most skin tones. The formula dries down to a matte.  It doesn’t settle into lines like some mattes do, but just sits on top, making your lips look pretty smooth. The color does transfer, and I wouldn’t say that it is super long-wearing. However, it makes your lips feel like fluffy pillows and is so incredibly soft, that I don’t mind reapplying it throughout the day.

My verdict: Run and get it. Right now.

Have a wonderful year guys. I look forward to creating great content for you.

December’s Ipsy bag was a gorgeous icy blue, very appropriate for the season. With the cool silvery blue and silver detail across the top, it reminded me of snow, icicles and beautiful Christmas ornaments. I am happy that they did not go full-out Christmas green and red.

fileAsset

This month’s products were a well-rounded group. There were two K-Beauty items that I was very happy about, and based on the brow product they sent me, I could tell that they were trying to make up for last month’s brow fail.

SON & PARK, Beauty Water

fileAsset

I am really happy with this product. As with a lot of skincare, it is hard to be able to form an accurate opinion without trying the product for an extended amount of time. So, I don’t want to pre-judge it. However, as this is a product that I was considering purchasing from Sephora, I am very happy to be able to try it from Ipsy first.

SMASHBOX, Be Legendary Lipstick in Legendary

fileAsset

I am always happy to try new red lipsticks. This color was right in time for the holidays. As we mentioned in out Red Lip Rundown, a red lip is PERFECT for all the holiday and end-of-year parties. This is a very flattering shade. I’m happy with this one.

NYX, Faux Blacks Eyeliner in Blackberry

fileAsset

I LOVE this! This may be my favorite item from this month’s bag. The dark purple liner is the perfect not-black color for when you want to use a dark liner, but do not want the harshness of black, and brown is just not enough. Also, purple is a very flattering color on both brown eyes and deeper skin. I’ve already added this to the top of my vanity as a product to use often.

PURLISSE BEAUTY, Sheet Masks

fileAsset

I am really excited to try the Green Tea + Ginger Mask. The Coconut + Rice one, not so much because I already have combo-oily, acne-prone skin and moisturizing sheet masks tend to not be the greatest for me. My husband, on the other hand, will enjoy it. I like that the sheet masks were included in the bag because I really enjoy facial masks, especially sheet masks (see two of my sheet mask haul reviews here and here).

TRÈSTIQUE, Mini Brow Pencil in Espresso

fileAsset

They tried. They really did. I can appreciate that after I was sent a brow product totally inappropriate for my skin and hair color, that Ipsy took the time to send me another brow product that was better suited for me. However, I do not like this product. I like brow pencils with much smaller tips to get more precise, hair-like strokes. Furthermore, the pigment of this product is terrible, perhaps it is too waxy, but I could work on one brow for five minutes and barely see any difference. Unfortunately, this is my least favorite product from this month’s bag.

_________

Overall, I think Ipsy did a good job this month. There was a really good mix of items to try, and I like that it was a minx of both makeup and skincare.

So, why I am I stopping my Ipsy subscription? Honestly, I am just more enticed by BoxyCharm. While the value of the Ipsy bags may be more than $10, I just don’t feel like paying $10 for a bag of samples. Ipsy says that they send full-sized or “deluxe sample”-sized products, but I can get free samples with my Sephora and Ulta orders every month. The only full-sized items you receive are ones that CANNOT be smaller, like sheet masks or individual eye shadows. I would rather pay $11/month more to get a box of all full-sized items. So, beginning in January, that is what I will do. I am honestly, quite excited to see what BoxyCharm will send me. So, stay tuned to see how I make out, and if maybe you’d be interested in giving THAT subscription service a try.

I hope you guys enjoyed my Glam Bag review series while it lasted. Who knows? It may come back one day. For the foreseeable future, I hope you look forward to and enjoy my new BoxyCharm reviews. New year. New series. Lots of new products to try and hopefully enjoy.

Thanks for reading guys & happy holidays! 💜

Sparkle Eye shadow palettes

Hello, hello. I hope this Hump Day finds you all well. With the holiday season in full swing, we are surrounded by holiday collection this and holiday collection that. This is ESPECIALLY true when it comes to makeup. Almost every major brand has released a special limited edition holiday collection. One genre (if you will) of holiday collection items are the sparkle/glitter eye shadow palettes. In this first installment of my “Showdown” series, I will give you a quick rundown three of this season’s sparkly shadow palettes, and which one is worth your holiday cash.

Urban Decay, Heavy Metals, $55

img_3621

Going in the order in which I tried them, let’s start with the UD palette. I had high hopes for this palette. The colors are beautiful and colorful; it swatched pretty nicely in store. I really thought I would LOVE this, but after a few days of daily wear tests, I realized that it wasn’t really worth the money. I felt like I had to work too hard to make the metalized effect come through. At $55, I don’t want to work that hard. I also felt like the color (not even the shine) got dull before the day was over. My recommendation: PASS.

Fenty Beauty, Galaxy, $39 (at time of publication), $59 regularly

img_3619

This was one of the most talked about shimmer/glitter palettes of the autumn release cycle. Some people LOVE it. Others HATE it. One of the most heard conversations about this palette was that it was an entire palette of glitter. You can see that just looking at the palette. Once you move past that and accept the palette as one needing companion palettes or shadows to do a complete look, you can judge the palette more fairly. For me,  one of my biggest problems with this palette is that the shadows do not do enough. As a $59 palette of only glitter, I should be able to see the glitter on my lids. I tried several application methods to try to get these shadows to work. I tried almost every single shadow, too; the sparkle is MIA. Interestingly, though, you can see the glitter in the fall out all over your face, but not on your eyes. Recommendation? PASS

ColourPop, Golden State of Mind, $26

img_3620

I love ColourPop’s Super Shock eye shadows. I also love most of their lip products. So, I was over the moon when Sephora started carrying the brand, and did not even bother swatching the palette in store. I just knew that I would love it like I do everything else from them…WRONG. So, wrong I was. This palette, unfortunately, was awful. I actually could not even pick up any color on a brush, and had to  scrape at the shadows to get something just to come up on my finger. Sadly, this is also a PASS. (T_T)

Think I’ll just leave you hanging without any viable options to get your lids as sparkly as the Christmas lights on your tree? Nope. Instead of trying to buy an entire palette of glitter, sparkle or metal, just buy a couple individual shimmer shadows from City Color Cosmetics.img_3622

Their huge single Shimmer Shadows are gorgeous, and have a majorly pigmented, highly shimmery shadow that really lasts throughout the day straight into the night. At $3.99 each, you can get several beautiful colors that you actually like and will use for the price of any one of the three lackluster palettes I discussed.

Well, that is it for this midweek mini, showdown volume 1. I hope you are thoroughly enjoying this amazing holiday season. ♥

Morphe #39A Dare to Create palette review

Morphe Brushes eyeshadow palettes are nothing new. Known for their affordability, they were not known as the highest quality line, but ever since the Jaclyn Hill X Morphe palette launch earlier this year, their reputation has quickly turned around as an affordable AND high quality makeup brand. (Note- their brushes have had a cult-like following for years.)

So, imagine my excitement when I heard that they were launching a new holiday line including the #39A Dare to Create palette ($32 on Morphe’s website). My first glance at it was on CKey’s  unboxing  of the collection on YouTube. If you have not seen what this palette looks like, take a look below and you’ll understand the hype.

img_3186

The thing that first struck me once I started playing with these shadows is how insanely creamy they are. In texture, they kinda remind me of my Marc Jacobs shadows. *gasp* I know. Crazy, right? All of them are smooth and glide onto the skin.

The next thing I noticed is how incredibly easy they are to blend. I posted a photo on Instagram of a look I did with ONE shadow. I prepped my lids with concealer and set them with powder. Then, I took the shade Indigo and, starting in the outer corner, I packed it on and blended it out towards the center of my lid. This is the look:

img_3289_facetune_01-12-2017-17-16-32

I also really love the giant center pans of this palette. Everyone knows that you tend to use up your transition shades before any other colors (unless you use the same ones daily). So, Morphe generously giving us HUGE pans of transition shades in various tones across the middle of the palette is really worthy of a major *thumbs up* on its own.

Actually, not just for transitions on my eyes, I have used those middle tones on my face. I have used Bare to help blend out contours. I use Evolve as a matte bronzer to warm up the perimeter of my face, and I use Transitional as a light contour shade. So, I truly get multifunctional use from this palette.

The only negative that I have found while using this over the last few weeks is that sometimes the shadows are TOO blendable. More than once, I have come to find that all of the colors have blended together after a while and don’t hold their own color for a long time. I am still working on finding ways to remedy that, such as application technique and even color selection. One thing that I have found is that packing on the color with your fingers really makes the colors pop (which is generally true for all eye shadows). So, for these, even though I typically only do that with other palette for metallic or shimmer shades, I use my finger to apply all of the shades (except transitions or in tight spaces) for the 39A palette and just use my finger or a brush to blend.

Keep scrolling to check out swatches of all 39 colors.

Welcome to December & welcome to my monthly Ipsy Glam Bag Review.

(If you want an overview of how Ipsy works and how I got into it, read my first review.)

These are the profile settings I used for this month. As I told you guys I would in the October review, I did change my hair preference setting to black. That’s the only change I made.

Describe your hair (None)

The vibe for ipsy this month was all about celebrating individuality. I can definitely appreciate that. It is important for people to love themselves as they are and to be able to appreciate others as THEY are. What is the world, if not diverse? Anyhoo, this month’s bag was pretty simple. There was no overt connection to the them. I got a mustard and bronze bag. The other option (you can’t choose, you get what they send) was a mono-chrome bag of blue with a blue metallic portion (where my bag’s bronze is). I think my bag is pretty. I somehow managed to spill one of the products all over it as soon as I opened it, but we will get to that…

bag

NAKED COSMETICS, Mother Nature #06

shadow

In one of my recent bags I got a loose shadow and said that I liked it. So, I am assuming that’s why I was sent this one. The color is pretty. It is a iridescent brown with a strong blue shift. My problem was the container. The powder spilled all over me, my desk, and the ipsy bag (ruined) when I tried to open it…and no I didn’t have it turned upside down or anything. There is no sifter. The color was nice. Good payoff. Lasted a good amount of time, but the mess stuck with me… I would still give it another try though.

NOMAD COSMETICS, Multi-Perfection Duo Brow Powder in Brunetta Brillante

brow powder

I’m not sure what demographic they meant to send this to, but it most definitely could not have been mine nor anyone whose hair was not blonde. I definitely indicated that my hair was dark. This light/mid-tone gray powder would not work on anyone with dark hair, and certainly not deep skin. And, yes, I know you do not use black or even ultra-dark brown for your brows, but this is just clearly way too light. Hard pass. HARD PASS. (I also didn’t like the formula. Even if it was darker, the payoff wasn’t enough to get the full brows that I like.)

SKYN ICELAND, Berry Lip Fix with Wintered Red Algae

lip balm

This was a surprise favorite from this month’s bag. The first time I tried it I was doing some lip swatches so my lips were a bit raw. BIG MISTAKE. This formula has some sort of menthol/tingling/cooling properties so on my sore lips it was a problem. I didn’t realize that at the time because I didn’t know about the cooling. So, I initially thought it was an allergic reaction. I ended up giving it another try, though, and ended up really liking it. It has the consistency of petroleum jelly but is not greasy. It sinks into the lips and really moisturizes them. It’s a lasting moisture, too—perfect for the winter.

TARTE, Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Feisty

blush

I love tarte blushes. If you’ve read my Sephora shopping guide or sale haul, you know I have the Amazonian clay blush bazaar from this year’s holiday collection. I love it. That being said, I don’t need another single, so I passed it on to a friend. That doesn’t diminish my love for the blush, and the shade looks similar to some in the palette that I enjoy. So, I gave this five-stars in my ipsy rating.

COLOURPOP COSMETICS, Ultra Satin Lip in Baracuda

 gloss

This was another item that I did not like at first, but ended up happy that I gave it another shot. These kinds of colors can be a bit tricky on my skin tone. But, thankfully a more brown toned lip liner helped transform this color into a gorgeous everyday pinky mauve. I love ColourPop’s lip formula. I love most ColourPop products actually. (Most. Stay tuned for my upcoming Showdown series. A ColourPop product will be up for review.)

Final thoughts

Overall, I was not impressed with this bag. I really only genuinely liked 3 out of 5 items. Unfortunately, that is a fail in my book. I am thinking about changing my beauty subscription service to BoxyCharm next year based on a post/recommendation from another blogger, @KindaPuffy. Her October Boxy Charm review really got me seriously considering it. For now, though, I will be receiving December’s ipsy, but stay tuned to see what changes I decide to make for next year. Either way, I enjoy makeup and beauty products way too much to not be subscribed to SOMETHING.

Thanks for reading guys & happy holidays!♥

Sephora VIB Sale Haul

makeup addict + VIB sale = over-the-top haul.
Let’s see what I got!

Well guys, we survived another Sephora VIB sale. Did everyone make it out with limbs and bank accounts intact? I did (barely though).  I’m actually proud of myself, I didn’t go as crazy as even I expected. That being said, I did pick up quite a bit of goodies. I got a couple of items that I needed a refill on, and some new ones I am hoping to fall in love with. Keep reading to see what I got in my VIB sale haul….

Let’s start with the lips…..

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Gloss Bomb.

img_2910

I just had to see what all the hype was about. It looked beautiful and I actually did not own any simple lip glosses. Now I do and it’s so pretty….but it smells like a hair oil I used to use so idk how I feel about that.  The hair oil was coconut oil based, so it doesn’t smell bad, but it is throwing me off. Idk. Ignore me. Moving on….

Tarte tarteist Lip Bling top coat

img_2918.png

Tati (a YouTube beauty guru) said it was gorgeous, and it looked great when she applied it. So, I couldn’t miss this chance. Plus it doubles your lippie options since it transforms colors you already have. I like it.

Urban Decay Vice Matte Meets Metal Lipstick palette

img_2911I have owned a lipstick palette in the past. It was drugstore and I loved it. I think the idea of having multiple lip options in one handy palette is so convenient, not just for travel, but really for every day. There are three things that sold me on this: 1. It has a really nice mirror, making on-the-go touch-ups and reapplications easy. 2. It has a retractable brush. The drugstore palette I had did have a brush but I felt like it was so dirty just hanging out like that. This brush stays protested even if it accidentally falls out. 3. You have the option of both matte and metallic/shimmer colors. It is very versatile.  Very.

Sephora Crème lip stain in Pretty Auburn (26)

img_2909

I really wanted to try a brown lipstick. Sephora has really nice lip products that aren’t too expensive. This one looked nice, and for the price I figured it could not hurt to try it out.

Eyes….

Marc Jacobs Eye-conic palettes in Frivoluxe (730) & Smartorial (760)

Guys, I really hope you took my  advice about The Wild One palette. The formula is so great, and the formula in these smaller palettes are the same aka incredible. I really liked the colors in these two, and they were unlike anything that I already had. So, why not? (This formula may be my all-time favorite eyeshadow formula btw.)

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil in Zeroimg_2915

This is not super jet black, but it is a nice soft black shadow. Check out my October ipsy Glam Bag review to see why I love this formula so much.

Makeup Forever Excessive Lash Mascaraimg_2919

This. Mascara. Is. Everything. Period. It actually makes my lashes look like I am wearing falsies. No joke.

Face….

Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation in Rich Caramel

img_2914

I really enjoy my YSL All-nighter, but I am forever on the hunt for good foundations. Also, recently, I felt that the YSL maybe too matte for everyday wear in the cold weather since my face is getting drier (I am still testing different ways to wear it, though). So, I grabbed this one.

Sephora Serum Gel concealer in Toffe, Crème Caramel & Pecan Pie

We already know I love this formula. I just needed to restock. Why three colors? Toffee is my perfect concealer color. I rotate between the other two shades as under-eye/ mid-face highlight shades to add depth and shape to my face.

Urban Decay Velvetizerimg_2916

Everyone was raving about this when it first came out. I know I am late, but I was happy with my Laura Mercier powder. I wanted to use this as a mixing medium with some of my non-matte foundations to see if it would help them out. I also wanted to see if mixing it with my matte foundations would improve their wear and decrease the need to powder my face at the end (which can contribute to cake face).

Tarte Blush Bazaar- Amazonian clay blush paletteimg_2912

I have tried a Tarte blush in the past. I hated it. However, something told me to swatch it again at Sephora. I did and the blush was creamy and pigmented. Even the lighter colors showed up on my deeper skin. I have been really into blush for the past several months, so I figured this would be a good investment.

Peter Thomas Roth Mask-a-holic Kitimg_2924

This set is an AMAZING value. PTR is known to have some really great masks and for this incredible price, you can try multiple kinds of masks. The part that absolutely sold me on this was the size of the products in the kit. They look like they are full-sized. I did do some research, and the individual products are larger. However, there is no way you can complain about the size you get in here. Seriously. Even my husband is looking forward to trying some of these. Hands off the 24k gold, sir. Hands off.

Too Faced Hangover 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer & Setting Spray

img_2922

I really needed a primer/setting spray and I wanted something that was hydrating. This does everything I could want- prime, set & hydrate. Done.

Tools…

Beautyblender the original BeautyBlenderimg_2913

Surprisingly, I had never tried this cult favorite. Yes, I had makeup sponges, but never the original. Everyone pretty much says that no other sponges can even compare to the BeautyBlender, so I had to see what the hype was about. Those people were right. The texture and bounce of the BeautyBlender really makes a difference in your makeup application. I have been converted. I am now a believer.

BeautyBleander blendercleanser solidimg_2908

I tried cleaning my beautyblender with other soaps. It wasn’t working. So, before the sale ended I headed back to Sephora and picked up the solid cleansing bar. You can use it on, not only your makeup sponges, but also your brushes. This one even has a cute little drying rack for your beautyblender or the soap itself.

Sephora mini color switchimg_2917

This is so convenient for cleaning off your brush without wetting it for times when you want to use the same brush in multiple shadows. This lets you easily switch between colors without contaminating your shadows or muddying the colors on your eyes.

Other…

Sephora Favorites Cologne Sampler

img_2920 I got this as a gift for my husband. He really likes cologne, but only owns one for some reason. As I mentioned in the Guide to the VIB sale, this item is a great way for a person to try out several different fragrances AND get a full-sized version of their favorite amongst them. As I also said before, there are some high-end fragrances that cost more than the $65 you spend on this kit so the value is totally there.

I also ordered some more items online, but it looks like the order was cancelled due to items going out of stock. So, if I do end up getting them, I will let you guys know what the additional products are.

In total, I saved $122.80 (not counting the online items) by purchasing these products during the sale. That’s quite a bit of savings!! Do you think I made some good purchases? What did you guys pick up? I really want to know so comment below.
